LHD crowned consulting industry's Project of the Year
2 December 2006
The Lawrence Hargrave Drive project in New South Wales has been crowned the engineering consulting industry’s Project of the Year by the Association of Consulting Engineers Australia (ACEA), also winning the Specialist Services category award and jointly winning the Transport and Civil Infrastructure category award together with Sydney’s Westlink M7 project, also a Maunsell joint venture design project.
The ACEA Awards for Excellence, announced last night in Sydney, recognise outstanding achievements in the engineering consulting industry. The Lawrence Hargrave Drive (LHD), near Wollongong on the east coast of Australia, was selected from all category winners as Project of the Year, the highest industry accolade.
The LHD was developed as an alliance project by Maunsell, the New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority, Barclay Mowlem and Coffey Geosciences.
Maunsell is a part of global AECOM, which is independently ranked by Engineering News Record the world’s number one firm in transport, highways, mass transit and rail.
AECOM Group Chief Executive, Nigel Robinson, said the awards were a great credit and honour for Maunsell.
“These awards celebrate Maunsell’s industry leading design skills and technical excellence,” Mr Robinson said.
“This is an acknowledgement of our professional capabilities in providing our clients with elegant design, superior solutions, and project and service delivery.
“They signify our commitment to providing our clients with an exceptional quality of work as one of Australia’s leading engineering design firms.”
Maunsell New South Wales Director, Peter Wyton, accepted the awards together with Maunsell’s project partners.
“The Lawrence Hargrave Drive and Sydney’s Westlink M7 have been recognised across the engineering and construction industries as two of Australia’s most successful infrastructure projects,” Mr Wyton said.
“These awards demonstrate the industry leading standard of Australian engineering design, to continually deliver with a focus on innovation and flexibility.
“Each of these projects involved complex logistics in order to ensure that our design achieved client objectives and community expectations.
“Importantly, each project delivered value for money, on schedule, and with no risks to health and safety,” he said.
“The awards are very pleasing recognition of superior infrastructure solutions and outstanding achievement in collaboration with our design partners and the construction project teams.
“We will continue to build on our strong reputation for delivering winning projects, combining the highest quality of service with social, economic, and environmental benefits that are showcased in world leading engineering designs.”
Maunsell’s George Town Substation project in Tasmania also received a certificate of recognition in the Energy and Resource category.
