Water Efficiency Management Plans for South East Queensland
Queensland, Australia
Maunsell’s environmental group has delivered major water savings for industrial clients through development of water efficiency management plans (WEMPs). Importantly, Maunsell's WEMPs are setting new best-practice benchmarks, to fully comply with Queensland local and state regulations.
Maunsell has developed WEMPs for clients including CS Energy’s Swanbank Power Station, Queensland’s Prisons, the five-star Sofitel Hotel, the XXXX Brewery at Milton, and Mrs Crocket’s Kitchen.
The CS Energy Swanbank Power Station plan was the first plan to be submitted in the Ipswich region, helping to establish a benchmark for efficiency based on best-practice performance measures in water savings.
Water savings require a balance of practical and technical solutions.
Maunsell worked with CS Energy to develop a plan to enable Swanbank Power station to reduce its town water use by 25 per cent, to comply with water restrictions.
To achieve this, Maunsell identified ways for Swanbank to ensure that plant equipment uses water efficient technology. In addition, we helped the station to reduce its raw water use by developing a new regime of water recycling.
Maunsell also developed water efficiency management plans for Queensland’s correctional centres, as part of the Queensland Corrective Services water saving initiative.
In addition to carrying out an audit of water use, Maunsell examined options for site-collection of water and flow restrictors on taps and toilets. Our technical capabilities and awareness of environmentally sustainable design principles has led the Queensland Government to establish these centres as best-practice models, with resultant water savings up to 35 megalitres a year, equal to 15.3 Olympic size swimming pools.
Maunsell is currently working on a significant project with XXXX Brewery at Milton to examine options for reducing the brewery’s water demands and has recently completed a water audit of Brisbane’s Sofitel, a five star hotel with 400 guest rooms.
Maunsell has established best-practice models to ensure industry compliance with Queensland’s mandatory WEMPs.
Sustainability and efficient use of natural resources now rank as primary business priorities, with water conservation practices and water demand management a top priority for our clients.
Maunsell has recognised the importance of sustainability and the changing attitudes to climate change and is now working to integrate sustainability into all the company’s design and planning practices.
