The Chinese Environmental Protection Bureau has commissioned Maunsell and Bassett to design one of Tianjin’s first green buildings. Our sustainability team, exporting its intelligence internationally, has created a preliminary concept design to refurbish an existing office block into a modern, sustainable building.
The eight-story building is in China’s port city of Tianjin, and is currently used by the Chinese Environmental Protection Bureau for office space. The new design is a step in the right direction to build a sustainable skyline for Tianjin.
The project will see one of Tianjin’s old buildings become a green building that competes with the city’s newest sustainable buildings.
The low energy design incorporates initiatives such as solar chimneys, a bio-wall, double façades, winter gardens and a ground water aquifer.
