BACL has recently appointed Maunsell to undertake preliminary engineering for the new parallel runway project at the Brisbane International Airport. The new runway project features in the Brisbane Airport Masterplan (2003) and is a central component of the continued efficient operation of the Brisbane Airport.
Maunsell’s commission includes:
- Preliminary engineering investigations into the development of the project;
- Integration of existing environmental assessments and studies;
- Major hydrological and hydraulic modelling of Kedron Brook, storm surge from Moreton Bay and the extensive channel structures across the airport site;
- Investigations into the geotechnical aspects of the site including settlements, fill requirements and surcharging;
- Investigations into the relevant geoscientific elements of the work including acid sulphate soils assessments;
- Preliminary engineering design of runway and taxiway systems;
- Aviation studies and preliminary design of lighting, navigation systems and the like; and
- Integration of other miscellaneous infrastructure to support the runway system including emergency response fire fighting and landside access under link taxiways.
At the completion of the preliminary engineering design, Maunsell will deliver a finalised layout and construction staging of the new runway project and methodology for managing impacts on existing operations.
