North West Transitway
New South Wales, Australia
The North West Transitway (NWT) forms part of the dedicated busway network to provide a public transport solution for the north west sector of Sydney. It is an important extension to the existing Liverpool to Parramatta Transitway which began operation in 2004.
NWT has two routes: Parramatta to Rouse Hill and Blacktown to Parklea with a future extension planned from Parklea to Castle Hill. The two routes intersect at Burns Road and Old Windsor Road where a major a bus interchange will be constructed.
Maunsell is providing the detailed design for the constructor, including 12 bridges and approximately 24km of new shared busway pavement. There are 30 bus stations along the two routes and several project interfaces with other major infrastructure projects, such as Westlink M7 and the Windsor Road Upgrade.
Construction began in February 2005, with construction of the Parramatta to Rouse Hill route to be completed by the end of 2006, and the Blacktown and Parklea route completed by the end of 2007.
