North Coast Rail Improvement Program

The North Coast Rail Improvement Program is an Alliance between the Australian Rail Track Corporation and the Transport Express Joint Venture, to deliver US$160 million worth of infrastructure upgrade and renewals between Maitland in New South Wales and Brisbane in Queensland.
Maunsell is tasked with delivering all aspects of the engineering development and design for this three year program as a sub-alliance partner.
This includes:
1. The concept and detailed design of 16 crossing loop extensions
- Extension to 1670m clear standing room
- Installation of 50km/h capable turnouts
- Installation of maintenance sidings where required.
2. The concept and detailed design of 18 crossing loop upgrades
- Installation of 50km/h capable turnouts
- Installation of maintenance sidings where required
3. The concept and detailed design for the rebuilding of Leeville Viaduct, a 505m long transom structure, to be rebuilt under normal traffic operation. This includes the review of environmental factors, planning approvals, and all temporary works design.
4. The repair of Repton (202m) and Kalang (150m) River bridges, under normal traffic operation. Both of these bridges are steel structures nearly 80 years old and require considerable amounts of repair works.
5. All Environmental Impact Assessments and Reviews of Environmental Factors associated with Repton, Kalang, and Leeville structures; and three of the Crossing Loop Extensions (Craven, Togar, Murulla).
6. Planning permission and approvals for all works.
