North-South Bypass Tunnel
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Maunsell in Australia has confirmed its reputation as the region’s leading design consulting firm in transport, winning the engineering design contract for the US$1.6B Brisbane North-South Bypass Tunnel (NSBT) in the state of Queensland.
The design contract was one of Australia’s most contested project bids, consulting to the RiverCity Motorway consortium (RCM).
The win confirms our history of delivering design for complex infrastructure projects ahead of schedule and on-budget. It also strengthens AECOM’s position as the number one firm in transport engineering design world-wide.
This is a major project for Queensland and will be Brisbane’s first privately financed toll road. The NSBT is the largest Public Private Partnership ever undertaken in Queensland. Initial site establishment and early works have begun with the first major work scheduled to begin in late August.
The North-South Bypass Tunnel project is approximately 6.8 kilometres in length from end to end and includes a 4.8 kilometre tunnel as well as associated road connections. The Project also includes a range of urban enhancements to surrounding suburbs. The NSBT is expected to open in the second half of 2010.
Our international team of engineers and traffic and transport specialists have become a leading force in icon Australian projects, including the recently completed Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Westlink M7 in New South Wales, and Roe Highway in Perth – all award winning projects.
