Vaturu Dam Safety Assessment
Fiji
Project outline
Demand for water from the Nadi-Lautoka region in Fiji has grown significantly over the past decade. This means that most of time, demand exceeds supply. As a result, this study was commissioned in order to ensure the continued safe operation of Vaturu Dam. The goal was to maximise its use for the delivery of water, as well as power generation.
Key features
Vaturu Dam is a 55m high-zoned rockfill dam with a crest length of 297m.
Services to client
Maunsell carried out a comprehensive safety review of Vaturu Dam, including design and construction review, site inspection, assessment of monitoring data, in-service performance review, assessment of dam safety, assessment of current surveillance program, operations and maintenance procedures, and emergency action plan. The study also included yield analysis and hydrological studies in addition to a reservoir optimisation study.
