Maunsell and Lahmeyer International are acting as Owners Engineer for the construction of the 1070 MW Nam Theun II Hydropower Station in Khammoune Province, central Lao.
Key features
The Nam Theun II scheme is a BOT project developed under limited resource financing with the support of a World Bank partial risk guarantee. Nam Theun II will have a capacity of 1070 MW, exploiting a 350m head, and will produce almost 6000 GWh per year. Construction is planned for completion by 2009. Most of the generation will be exported to Thailand.
Services to client
- Assisting NTEC in a review capacity - impartial advice on the final design, the tender procedure, the construction and the commissioning of the project.
- Providing assistance in third party and stakeholder relations – includes local peoples affected by the project, non-government organisations, the media, financing agencies and the Government of Lao PDR.
- Informing the members of NTEC about progress, quality of work, difficulties that may emerge, and how problems can be avoided.
- Mediation (in case of stakeholder conflicts of interest).
