Laemchabang Container Terminal
Laemchabang, Thailand
Laemchabang Terminal A2 forms part of a larger undertaking in Thailand, developing complete sea port facilties located two hours drive from Bangkok. Maunsell has provided a complete range of services from evaluation and assessment of the site to construction.
Laemchabang Terminal includes a 400 metre wharf for panamax size vessels, container and general cargo areas, terminal buildings and road access.
The location was reclaimed land and Maunsell assessed the site for the client and undertook contract supervision and site supervision of preliminary earthworks. This included the removal of a silt pond on the site, requiring disposal and replacement of 600,000 cubic metres of silt with suitable granula material.
Preparation of the site was undertaken during the design phase.
Design entailed the wharf and facilities, pavements, rubber tired gantry, runways, container plinths, drainage, buildings, lighting, access roads, water supply and power reticulation. Buildings comprised a four-storey administration and operations block, container freight station, maintenance workshop, gate-house and substation.
Maunsell supervised construction of the designed facilities to completion and operation.
