Delhi Metro Ventilation Design
Delhi, India
Located in north central India, Delhi is the national capital with an estimated population of 14 million. The existing public transport system relies primarily on a bus network that travels at an average speed of six miles per hour.
On behalf of the joint venture contractor, Maunsell was responsible for the preliminary and detailed analysis and design of the ventilation system for the first stage of the line. The design encompassed 10km of underground line with a total of 10 stations operating with modern rolling stock with a minimum headway of two minutes.
The analysis covered the three key areas of aerodynamics, thermodynamics and emergency ventilation identifying the ventilation strategy along with the plant requirements both for the tunnel ventilation system as well as the cooling required to maintain acceptable conditions.
