Clearways Project
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Maunsell has been selected as the Technical Advisor to the NSW Government on the Clearways Project in Sydney. The Client, Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (TIDC), is responsible for infrastructure development on the rail network and their projects include the Macquarie Line, North Sydney Redevelopment and Chatswood Transport Interchange as well as Clearways.
Maunsell have been working with TIDC on all of these projects and selection for the Clearways Technical Advisor (CTA) role is an endorsement of Maunsell's pre-eminent position in the rail industry.
The Clearways Program includes 15 separate projects scattered across Sydney with a total capital expenditure of approximately US$760M. This significant investment in rail by the NSW Government is targeted at:
· Improving reliability in the Sydney Metropolitan Rail network through increased sectorisation
· Improving the quality of the Sydney passenger rail services
· Unlocking capacity on the network to overcome growing problems of crowding on the system
· Providing for future growth of both the network and the Sydney Metropolitan area itself
· Providing a compatible basis for longer term rail plans
The work includes track duplications, station upgrades, passing loops and sidings. As the CTA, Maunsell will prepare designs and tender documentation and provide technical advice and support for all the projects and will work with TIDC to complete the program by 2010.
A project team has been set up in Maunsell's Sydney office. At its peak we expect a team of approximately 60 people to be working on the project. The team is being led by the Project Director, David Radcliffe, and the Project Manager, Ian Whitton.
