Pacific Motorway
Queensland, Australia
Queensland's two largest population centres, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, are linked by the Pacific Motorway. In 1996, the state government allocated A$750 million for improvements.
Maunsell's task was to design the reconstruction of a four lane highway into an eight and six lane motorway, with four lanes of parallel service roads.
Maunsell provided:
- alignment planning and review
- geometric design
- structural design of bridges and walls
- design of earthworks, landscaping and signals
- cost estimates and tender documentation
The program involved extensive traffic management to maintain operation of four lanes throughout the construction period.
An extensive Impact Management Plan set new standards for environmental issues, pavement drainage and water quality provisions.
