Brisbane Inner City Bypass
Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Recently awarded the prestigious Australian Construction Achievement Award, and the Association of Consulting Engineers Australia 'Project of the Year', Brisbane's Inner City Bypass has captured the hearts and minds of commuters in a way rarely achieved by a piece of urban infrastructure.
Functional, aesthetic, efficient, the ICB is a landmark project. Far more than just a transport corridor, it is a symbol of how exceptional results are achieved when the collective mind-set of all project participants is one of better than business as usual.
Maunsell led the engineering design on the Inner City Bypass, a design and construct contract managed by Leighton Contractors. Traversing the city fringe and joining existing urban arterials, Hale Street to the west, and Kingsford Smith Drive to the East, Maunsell's design scope included four tunnels, 18 bridges, 11 ramps, and 4.5 km of four and six-lane asphalt and concrete pavement roads.
Completed 8 months ahead of schedule and on budget, not only has the ICB delighted client the Brisbane City Council, it has also enhanced the inner city travel experience, reducing travel time through and around the city of Brisbane by 15 minutes. With the significant urban renewal and landscaping at Victoria Park, Yorks Hollow, the Normanby and Breakfast Creek, the ICB has also provided a community facility that will be enjoyed for years to come.
