Patricia Baleen Gas Field
Victoria, Australia
The Patricia Baleen gas field is located in Commonwealth waters about 55 m deep and is some 23 km offshore from Newmerella in East Gippsland, Victoria. It is being developed as an additional and independent energy supply to Victoria, with a nominal through-put of 60 TJ/day.
Maunsell has managed the onshore and offshore planning and environmental approvals process for the gas field. Personnel also assisted with native title negotiations, land and easement acquisition.
The project involves the drilling of 2 sub-sea production wells at the Patricia Baleen gas field; an offshore pipeline (approximately 24 km in length); an onshore gas compression plant; and a 10 km onshore pipeline connecting the facility to the Eastern Gas Pipeline.
Maunsell's role has been to achieve a balance between the natural, social and economic environments. This has required meeting regulatory requirements at federal, state and local levels and the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive community consultation program.
Maunsell undertook preparation of an EES-PER, strategic EMS, works approval and onshore / offshore pipeline approval applications.
From 2002 Maunsell continued its involvement with the gas field, providing contractor management and auditing, regulatory reporting and development of operational systems.
