North Shore Tunnel and Seabed Outfall Project
Auckland, New Zealand
Maunsell and sister company Metcalf and Eddy, in conjunction with local New Zealand consultant Tonkin and Taylor have been appointed by North Shore City Council as consultants on a US$28 million Tunnel and Seabed Outfall Project.
The project which started in January 2003 is expected to take six or seven years to complete. The project will involve a feasibility study and preliminary design for a tunnel and outfall for the Rosedale Sewerage Treatment Plant on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand. The combined tunnel and seabed outfall will convey treated effluent under the suburb of Mairangi Bay for discharge around 3km offshore.
This project replaces a tunnel and outfall that it designed by Maunsell (working previously as Worley) in the 1960s.
